Microsoft Joined The Linux Foundation


Microsoft joined the Linux Foundation | Shocking news comes from giant software Microsoft, today officially joined the Linux Foundation as a platinum member with the highest cost.

The news was announced by the Linux Foundation, a nonprofit that has been promoting professional management of open-source base for collaboration of today, at the Microsoft Connect (); the event of developers in New York.

Start from cloud computing and networking to gaming, Microsoft continued to increase their involvement in open source projects and their community. The Microsoft owner's "Bill Gates" is now a major contributor to open source on GitHub and earlier this year also showed their commitments towards open source.

For example, Microsoft has already released the open source .NET 1.0 Core; partnered with Canonical to bring Ubuntu to Windows 10; working with FreeBSD for releasing a picture to Azure, and after having Xamarin, Microsoft turn their software development kit into opensource. In addition, Microsoft is also working with a number of companies such as Red Hat, SUSE and others to support their solutions in its products.

"As a company with a cloud platform, we aim to help developers to achieve more using the platform and the language they know," said Scott Guthrie, Executive Vice President, Microsoft Cloud & Linux Group.

"The Linux Foundation is home, not only for Linux, but home to many open source projects belonging to innovate community. We are very excited to join the Linux Foundation and partnered with the community to help developers take advantage of the shift to cloud and mobile experience", he added.

Previously, Microsoft had been contributes a lot to some of the Linux Foundation's projects, including Node.js Foundation, OpenDayLight, Open Countainer Initiative, R Consortium and Open API Initiative.

John Gossman, Architect at Microsoft Azure team, will join Linux Foundation with directors.

Platinum member of the Linux Foundation, more pay about $ 500,000 for the previlege of including Cisco, Fujitsu, HPE, Huawei, IBM, Intel, NEC, Oracle, Qualcomm and Samsung. While Google, Facebook and more than a dozen other open source users is a Gold sponsor.
